One film, many connections

Each film has a synopsis written for this collection, production details and references. Cast, directors, genres, countries and periods lead to further selections. Search combines names, release year, decade, runtime and subtitle languages.

Languages and subtitles

Silent films are available in every site language. Their intertitles may remain in the original language. Films with dialogue require audio or subtitles in the page language; automatic translation alone does not count as an available track.

Captions are requested when the audio differs from the page language. When the audio matches, captions are off by default and can be enabled with CC if a track is available. On YouTube, changing CC may reload the player at the current position. Subtitles embedded in the picture cannot be turned off.

The homepage uses your saved language choice, then your browser language, with English as the fallback. Each language has its own address. Choosing a language takes priority over automatic detection.

About public domain

The public-domain references concern the original films in the United States. Rights can differ for other countries, editions, restorations, music or translations. Sources are listed on each film page.

Copies and sources

Films play directly from YouTube, Internet Archive or Wikimedia Commons, depending on the selected copy. Video files remain hosted by the source platform.

The selection began with the supplied playlist and expanded through other YouTube channels and playlists. Video metadata, Internet Archive records and encyclopedic references were cross-checked to identify each work. Availability was checked on September 10, 2026 and may change. Cast photographs include credits and reuse information on the film pages.

Ratings and playback problems

Each account can rate a film from 1 to 10 and later change or remove its rating. Film pages display the average and number of ratings without showing reviewers’ names.

We store your email and ratings. Your email is not public. Resend delivers the sign-in emails. An essential cookie keeps you signed in for up to 30 days.

Player errors and visitor reports help maintain the collection. Records include the film, language, event type and time without linking these events to a visitor account. The maintenance dashboard is private.
