After Death

Synopsis

A reclusive young man is persuaded to rejoin social life and briefly encounters an actress whose interest he cannot answer. Months later, the news of her death transforms that hesitation into an obsession. He searches for a connection that was never fully formed while she was alive, allowing memory, fantasy and grief to take possession of his life.

Inspirations

Bauer adapts Ivan Turgenev's novella Klara Milich, reshaping the story into a drama of withdrawal and posthumous desire. The actress's absence becomes more powerful for the young man than their actual meeting.
