Synopsis
A printer arriving in Moscow accepts a place on the sofa in a friend's crowded apartment. His considerate manner appeals to his host's wife, whose days are dominated by household duties. As affection shifts among the three, changing sleeping arrangements expose the unequal expectations that remain beneath their apparently unconventional domestic life.

Historical context
The intimate setting connects the Soviet housing shortage with debates about relationships and women's independence during the New Economic Policy. The film tests the distance between promises of social change and the habits of daily life.
