Synopsis

An animator draws Bosko, who immediately comes to life and introduces himself. The new character dances, sings and experiments with a piano while his creator supplies whatever the act requires. Their exchange turns the drawing process into a miniature stage audition before Bosko is returned to the ink bottle.

Cast

Historical context

Hugh Harman and Rudolf Ising made the short as a demonstration to attract producers, helping prepare the way for Looney Tunes. Bosko's design draws on blackface caricature, part of the racist entertainment traditions carried into early sound animation.
