Synopsis
During the First World War, a woman enters a British official's household under a cover story, intending to pass military information to Germany. A servant in the house appears to share her mission, but appearances offer little protection in this chain of concealed allegiances. The spy story depends on who recognizes which deception first.

Inspirations
Anthony Paul Kelly's 1918 play Three Faces East had already reached the screen twice before this adaptation. A First World War espionage plot acquired renewed topical force when the film appeared during the opening months of the Second World War.
Behind the scenes
The production reused aerial footage from The Dawn Patrol. This practical economy also links the film to an earlier cycle of Hollywood representations of the First World War.
