Synopsis

Two American soldiers in wartime Paris would rather pursue women than military duties. They go absent without leave and impersonate officers to improve their chances. Their schemes make avoiding the military police increasingly difficult and draw their commander into the confusion.

Historical context

The First World War supplies a setting for military farce rather than battlefield reconstruction. Uniforms and rank become tools of romantic deception, turning the army's hierarchy into a comic resource.
