Synopsis

An aspiring performer enters a film studio and soon disrupts its auditions, carpentry work and production routines. Being offered a uniformed role gives him access to the set but little understanding of what the scene requires. Gambling, props and misplaced confidence help turn his first acting opportunity into a threat to the picture being made.

The title also refers to Chaplin's move from Keystone to Essanay. He made this first Essanay comedy in Chicago before returning to California for the films that followed.
