Synopsis

Facing a manslaughter charge, a young man traces his troubles to a home where money substitutes for attention. He invents a happier family life, takes a job and falls for a nightclub singer. Her connection to a gangster leads him into courier work whose true purpose he does not understand until escape becomes difficult.

Historical context

The film uses a courtroom account to frame its warning about parental neglect and juvenile delinquency. Produced by PRC, it packages a social problem within a crime melodrama, repeatedly contrasting the teenager's public image of family happiness with the disorder he experiences at home.
