Synopsis
A burlesque performer is becoming a favourite with audiences while navigating feuds and unwanted attention backstage. Murders inside the theatre draw her and a persistent comic into an investigation among their fellow performers. The film alternates stage routines with a mystery rooted in the close, quarrelsome world behind the curtain.

Gypsy Rose Lee's novel The G-String Murders brought a burlesque performer's experience into a murder mystery. Hollywood's adaptation softened the material while retaining its backstage environment.
Behind the scenes
The Production Code office objected even to the intimate garment used as the murder weapon. These objections shaped a film that hints at the world of burlesque while negotiating what a mainstream Hollywood release could show.
