Synopsis
A young lawyer marries a woman he has only just met, upsetting both his mother's expectations and the plans surrounding his career. The couple's affection must then survive money worries, office politics and the pressures of parenthood. A family emergency eventually turns their everyday struggle into a test of trust and determination.

Reception and legacy
Contemporary reviews were often favourable, and The New York Times included it among its ten best films of 1939. The approval did not translate into a profit for the production.
