Synopsis

Snow changes the appearance and movement of Moscow as the camera visits streets, markets, riverside views and a public park. Workers, shoppers and prosperous visitors share the winter city in different ways. Horse-drawn traffic and broad panoramas connect these encounters, making the season a framework for observing both urban activity and social contrasts.

Behind the scenes

Mundwiller filmed Moscow during the winter of 1908; the short is catalogued as a 1909 release. Its changing viewpoints expand the city portrait beyond a single landmark to include the people using its streets and recreational spaces.
