Synopsis
A European prince and an American singer begin a romance in Italy, only for royal obligations and a withheld message to separate them. Years later, she has become a film star and he returns under different circumstances. Their reunion forces them to reconsider a relationship shaped as much by public roles as by private feeling.

Inspirations
Edwin H. Knopf's play became the basis for a Technicolor musical romance designed around opera star Ezio Pinza and Lana Turner. Turner's singing was supplied by Trudy Erwin, making the performance a collaboration between screen presence and a separate recorded voice.
