Synopsis

A former criminal and his daughter attempt to live honestly under the influence of a Chinatown philosopher. When a gangster frames the father for murder, the daughter loses faith in reform and joins a jewel robbery. Betrayal within the scheme and affection for a fellow fugitive make returning to crime less straightforward than revenge first appears.

Behind the scenes

Lon Chaney plays two contrasting roles in Tod Browning's crime story. The surviving film became available again after a print of Universal's shorter 1926 reissue was discovered in the 1970s, an important distinction from the original 1920 release.
