Synopsis

A tailor discovers that an aristocrat cannot attend a party and decides to take his place. His recently dismissed assistant reaches the same gathering, where both men compete for a wealthy young woman's attention. Their uncertain manners strain the disguise until the real count arrives, making the evening's social ambition a much more immediate problem of escape.

Cast

Historical context

Chaplin and Eric Campbell carry workplace rivalry into a fashionable party. The imposture depends on clothing and a borrowed name, while dining and dancing continually expose the distance between appearance and practiced social knowledge.
