The Diabolic Tenant

Synopsis

A new tenant enters an empty room with a small bag and produces furniture, decorations and an entire household from it. When the bill arrives, the miraculous domestic arrangement becomes a means of escape. The caretaker and a policeman discover that ordinary rules cannot contain either the guest or his luggage.

Cast

Behind the scenes

Méliès combines theatrical machinery, pyrotechnics and concealed performers with substitution effects. The everyday business of renting a room supplies a framework for objects that grow, disappear and seem to acquire lives of their own.
