The Monster

Synopsis

An Egyptian prince asks a priest to bring his dead wife back to life. The ritual animates a skeleton, which acquires a shroud and begins an increasingly unsettling dance. The prince's hope of a reunion becomes a spectacle in which the body changes shape and the promised restoration remains uncertain.

Cast

Behind the scenes

Georges Méliès plays the priest and combines puppetry with theatrical machinery and camera effects. A wire-operated skeleton, trapdoors, substitutions and superimposition turn the resurrection into a sequence of visual surprises.
