Synopsis
An escaped prisoner steals a minister's clothes and arrives in a town expecting a new parson. With the sheriff close by, he has little choice but to accept the welcome and improvise a sermon. A former cellmate then recognizes him, threatening both his disguise and the trusting household that has offered him a place to stay.
Cast
Behind the scenes
This was Chaplin's last film for First National and his final starring partnership with Edna Purviance. The improvised sermon turns a familiar biblical story into an extended piece of comic mime.
