Synopsis
A Belgian veteran travels to America to find the woman whose letters sustained him during the war. He knows her name and face but little about the life awaiting him. His awkward search eventually draws him into her town's conflict with criminals, giving the unlikely newcomer a chance to help far more people than he intended.
Frank Capra made his feature-directing debut with Harry Langdon in this comedy. Langdon's hesitant, childlike persona shapes the contrast between the newcomer's apparent helplessness and the unexpected consequences of his actions.
