Synopsis
A decorator's assistant hauls his employer and their equipment to a house already full of tensions. Hanging wallpaper becomes difficult enough before romantic distractions, suspicious residents and an unreliable stove enter the job. Paste and tools spread the disorder until the workers' assignment to improve the interior threatens to destroy it instead.
Cast
Behind the scenes
The opening makes the worker's unequal relationship with his employer physically literal by having him pull the cart. Inside the house, Chaplin develops the same conflict through the practical hazards of decorating and misplaced blame.
