Synopsis

An expedition sent to investigate a destructive sea creature encounters Captain Nemo's extraordinary submarine. Survivors brought aboard discover an underwater world while remaining subject to their mysterious host's rules. Nemo's hidden history links the voyage to events on a distant island, where captivity and revenge take a different form.

Behind the scenes

The adaptation combines material from two Jules Verne novels. Underwater scenes filmed in the Bahamas used the Williamson brothers' viewing-chamber system, allowing a camera above the water to record submerged action through an optical arrangement.
