Synopsis
Anne Boleyn returns to England and enters a court where Henry VIII's desires can overturn private loyalties and public institutions. The king's pursuit offers her a crown while separating her from the man she loves. Becoming queen does not bring security: the expectation of a male heir and Henry's changing favor leave her position increasingly vulnerable.

Behind the scenes
Lubitsch's historical spectacle pairs Henny Porten with Emil Jannings. Large sets recreated English court life in Berlin, including a version of Westminster Abbey, extending the scale of the director's earlier period productions.
