Cinderella

Synopsis

Cinderella's household duties give way to a magical transformation that allows her to attend the ball. Splendid clothing and an extraordinary departure briefly carry her beyond the world that treats her as a servant. The approach of midnight threatens the enchantment, leaving a slipper to connect the anonymous visitor with the young woman who must return home.

Inspirations

Méliès adapts Charles Perrault's fairy tale through a succession of theatrical scenes. Gustave Doré's illustrations helped shape the visual design, linking the familiar storybook world with the possibilities of camera trickery.
