Synopsis

The Egyptian queen's attraction to a fisherman gives way to a far-reaching romance with Mark Antony. Personal desire and royal ambition unfold through a sequence of carefully staged encounters. As political pressure gathers around the lovers, their splendour becomes inseparable from the danger threatening their rule.
