Synopsis
On an isolated Breton island, four men harvest and burn seaweed for its valuable ash. A quarrel leaves Ambroise with a cut thumb, and his worsening infection is mistaken for laziness. With medical help separated from the camp by wind, currents and mistrust, a minor injury becomes an urgent struggle to reach the mainland community.

Behind the scenes
Jean Epstein filmed on Bannec and Ushant with local nonprofessional performers. The work of seaweed gathering and the island landscape give the fiction a documentary texture, shaped further by his use of slow motion.
