Synopsis
Joan hears a divine call to defend France and leaves her village despite her family's objections. A succession of large tableaux follows her approach to the military leadership, victory at Orléans, captivity and trial. Méliès presents her death and heavenly reception through the theatrical spectacle and visual transformations of his early studio cinema.

Behind the scenes
The production expanded Méliès's storytelling across twelve elaborate sets. Its hand-colored images and staged visions show how historical pageantry and cinematic illusion could work together in a film made at the turn of the century.
