Synopsis

Jesse James robs trains to help settlers buy land from a corrupt banker. The banker retaliates by hiring a man who resembles Jesse to attack the very people the outlaw supports. To expose the arrangement, Jesse must confront the double whose crimes are turning his reputation into a weapon against him.

DirectorsJoseph Kane

Historical context

Roy Rogers plays both Jesse James and his criminal lookalike. The doubling belongs to the film's invented adventure plot, which casts James as a protector of settlers rather than attempting a dependable biography of the historical outlaw.
