Synopsis

After the Trojan War, Odysseus struggles to bring his men home through a world of hostile creatures and supernatural dangers. Escaping one threat leads to another, and the long journey strips him of his companions. Reaching Ithaca will require more than navigation: he must also confront the men who have taken over his household during his absence.

Cast

Historical context

The film was made in connection with the 1911 Turin exposition, during the celebrations marking fifty years of Italian unification. Its classical subject also suited contemporary ambitions to present cinema as an educational art.

Inspirations

The Italian production condenses episodes from Homer's Odyssey into a sequence of mythological adventures.
