Synopsis

Driven away by her husband and separated from her young son, Jacqueline spends years beyond the family's knowledge. A later companion discovers her connection to an influential official and plans blackmail. Her attempt to prevent that scheme brings her to trial, where the young lawyer assigned to defend her does not know that his silent client is his mother.

Cast

Inspirations

Lionel Barrymore directs Ruth Chatterton in another screen version of Alexandre Bisson's play. The courtroom structure places the mother's wish to protect her son's identity in direct conflict with the explanation that might defend her.
