Synopsis

Min runs a waterfront inn and raises Nancy as her own daughter, sharing arguments and affection with fisherman Bill. She wants the girl to have opportunities beyond the docks and sacrifices her savings for an education. When Nancy prepares to marry, the return of her birth mother threatens the future Min has worked to protect.

Cast

Inspirations

The film draws on Lorna Moon's novel Dark Star. Marie Dressler and Wallace Beery combine broad comedy with a story about parental sacrifice and the social distance separating a prosperous future from the people who made it possible.
