Synopsis
A gangster pursues a prosperous widow with more interest in her savings than her affection. His calculated courtship places private family life within reach of the criminal world around it. Music and nightclub entertainment accompany a melodrama in which apparent romance conceals an attempt to gain financial control.
Edgar G. Ulmer directed this independently produced film for the segregated market then served by Black-cast productions. Jazz musician Sidney Bechet appears in the wedding sequence, making the musical material a notable part of its record of contemporary performance.
