Synopsis

An estate agent travels to a remote castle to arrange a property purchase for Count Orlok. His client's unsettling habits soon become impossible to explain away. As the count's journey brings death toward the agent's hometown, his wife recognizes that stopping the visitor may demand something more than escape.

Inspirations

Henrik Galeen's screenplay adapts Bram Stoker's Dracula without the estate's authorization, changing names and locations while preserving major elements of the story. F. W. Murnau and designer Albin Grau gave Orlok a stark, emaciated appearance that helped distinguish this version within the visual world of German Expressionist cinema.
