The Last Days of Pompeii

191356 minItaly

Synopsis

In Pompeii, a priest's desire for Jone places Glaucus in the path of a conspiracy involving poison and a false murder accusation. Nydia, a blind enslaved woman who loves Glaucus, knows enough to challenge the scheme. As public judgment moves toward punishment in the arena, the eruption of Vesuvius overturns the city's conflicts and makes escape the immediate question.

Inspirations

Ambrosio's adaptation of Edward Bulwer-Lytton's novel was one of two Italian versions released in 1913. This is the production directed by Eleuterio Rodolfi, which should be distinguished from the contemporary Pasquali film.
