The Whispering Chorus

Synopsis

After stealing from his employer, John Tremble flees and uses a dead stranger's body to make his family believe he has been murdered. The attempt to erase himself creates a new danger when the police seek a killer. His wife's changed life makes revealing the truth increasingly costly.

Historical context

Cecil B. DeMille's drama gives temptation and conscience a central role in a story of assumed identity. Its cruel reversal turns an apparent escape from responsibility into an accusation of the hero's own murder.
