Synopsis
After an uprising in Turin is crushed, its leader Octavio faces execution at the governor's order. Vanina, the governor's daughter, loves the prisoner and tries to save him. Her father's apparent willingness to negotiate conceals another purpose, turning the palace into a place where affection, political betrayal and authority lead toward the same trap.

Inspirations
The story draws on Stendhal, with Asta Nielsen and Paul Wegener opposing one another as daughter and father. Carl Mayer's scenario places the historical conflict within enclosed spaces that make escape increasingly difficult.
