Synopsis
Three scouts guide a wagon train toward Oregon, where a widow hopes to build a new life with her young son. A fur trader fears that incoming settlers will destroy his livelihood and works to turn the caravan back. The guides must keep the travellers together through a journey shaped by concealed opposition and divided loyalties.

Inspirations
The film returns to Zane Grey's 1929 novel Fighting Caravans, previously filmed in 1931. It combines a new cast led by Randolph Scott with footage from that earlier production. Its depiction of Indigenous people and settlement follows the conventions and prejudices of contemporary frontier melodrama.
