Synopsis
A vaudeville performer visits the college she has worked to finance for her son and discovers an institution short of both money and purpose. Keeping her identity quiet, she takes over a nearby diner and encourages the students to stage a show. Their preparation becomes a practical lesson in the responsibility her son has avoided.
The central family connections extend beyond the screenplay: Grace Hayes appears with her real son Peter Lind Hayes and his wife Mary Healy. The film draws on Grace's experience as an entertainer and nightclub operator to bridge the college story and its musical performances.
