Synopsis

A suitor faces competition from another man and firm opposition from his sweetheart's aunt. Disguising himself as a music teacher only produces more trouble, while an imagined marriage offers little escape from the family conflict. To win approval, he eventually stages an elaborate display of courage whose opponent is largely his own invention.

Behind the scenes

Max Linder wrote, directed and starred in the comedy. Its courtship plot gives him room to perform several identities and stage a physical argument with himself, using offscreen sound imagined by the other characters as part of the deception.
