Synopsis

Prince Kasatsky abandons his military and social ambitions after discovering that his fiancée has been involved with the emperor he admires. Becoming Father Sergius, he seeks peace through religious discipline and then isolation. The reputation for holiness that gathers around him brings new visitors and temptations, making spiritual pride as difficult to escape as worldly desire.
