Synopsis

A man imprisoned for a crime he did not commit escapes to find his family and confront the person who framed him. His wife has died, and his daughter believes him dead too. Discovering that she loves the wrongdoer's son forces him to decide whether clearing his own name will destroy the happiness he came back to recover.

Lon Chaney's fugitive moves through a Chinatown setting that combines sacrifice with the racial imagery common to silent melodrama. Surviving copies lack the colour flashback sequence included in the original production.
