Synopsis
An employer dresses her seamstress as a society guest to fill an empty place at a business dinner. A visiting man falls in love with her, unaware that she supports an abusive husband. Further invitations offer a glimpse of another life, but the husband's theft and blackmail threaten to expose and exploit the arrangement.
Cecil B. DeMille revisits a premise he filmed in The Golden Chance, using luxurious clothing and interiors to make social transformation visible. Agnes Ayres's character must navigate the distance between the identity she performs at dinner and the marriage governing her daily life.
