Synopsis
The flight from Egypt and the giving of the commandments introduce a second story set in modern America. Two brothers take different approaches to the moral rules their mother insists upon. Their choices in work, love and ambition test whether the principles presented in the biblical prologue can survive the pressures of everyday life.
Cecil B. DeMille's first film with this title divides its running time between biblical spectacle and a contemporary morality drama. That two-part structure distinguishes it from his 1956 version, while the Red Sea sequence demonstrates the earlier production's ambitious visual effects.
