Synopsis

A tailor's apprentice who can barely speak to women writes a confident guide to romantic conquest. Meeting a wealthy young woman gives him a relationship very different from the fantasies in his manuscript. Misunderstanding and a rival's plans eventually force him out of hesitation and into a frantic effort to reach her before an unwanted wedding takes place.

Lloyd's first independent feature after his separation from Hal Roach gives extended attention to the developing romance. Its long final chase then turns the character's emotional urgency into a succession of physical risks and improvised transport.
