Synopsis

A Confederate spy tries to stop gold from reaching the Union during the American Civil War. His sabotage repeatedly works against him, while the mine owner's two daughters complicate his attempts to escape. Raymond Griffith's composed manner contrasts with the misunderstandings, divided loyalties and sudden dangers surrounding his mission.

Cast

Historical context

The comedy inserts fictional adventures among recognizable historical figures. Its treatment of the war and its ethnic and religious jokes reflect the conventions of a 1920s screen farce rather than a reliable reconstruction of events.
