Synopsis
The expansion of Julius Caesar's power unfolds within a Roman world of political ambition, public ceremony and growing rivalry. His position brings influence on a scale that also gives opponents reasons to conspire against him. The historical epic moves toward the assassination, using large ensembles and reconstructed spaces to present the crisis as a public spectacle.

Behind the scenes
Guazzoni followed the international success of Quo Vadis with another large-scale reconstruction of ancient Rome. Shakespeare's play offers one point of reference, though the film's historical sweep is not limited to a direct transfer of that text.
