Synopsis
A young sailor's promising future collapses when jealous acquaintances arrange his imprisonment. Years inside an island fortress bring friendship with a prisoner who knows the location of a hidden fortune. Escape and the discovery of that wealth allow him to return under a new identity, determined to confront those who profited from his disappearance.
John Gilbert stars in this version of Alexandre Dumas's The Count of Monte Cristo. The adaptation also draws on Charles Fechter's stage treatment. Once considered lost, the film became available again after a print was found in the Czech Republic.
