Synopsis

Driven from home after repeatedly breaking promises about drinking, Rip wanders into the Catskills and accepts a mysterious stranger's liquor. He wakes to discover that twenty years have passed. Returning to a transformed village, he must recover his identity and protect his family from a man taking advantage of his long absence.

Thomas Jefferson carries on the role closely associated with his father Joseph Jefferson's stage career. This version of Washington Irving's story also reflects the theatrical adaptation that helped make Rip a familiar figure for nineteenth-century audiences.
