Synopsis
The son of a famous racing driver arrives at a California garage determined to earn his own place on the track. His father's former mechanic gives him a chance, but ambition and impatience make a dangerous combination. Racing success brings Billy Coy closer to the family history he has spent his life trying to outdistance.
Indianapolis winner Wilbur Shaw advised the production, and the racing protagonist drew on driver Mauri Rose. The film belongs to Mickey Rooney's move toward independent productions after his MGM years. It also contains Hattie McDaniel's final appearance in a feature film.
