Synopsis

A timber entrepreneur arrives in northern California intending to profit from its immense redwoods. The community living among the trees regards the forest very differently and resists his plans. Attraction to one resident and conflict with his own allies complicate a western in which the land's value means more than the price of its lumber.

Cast

Behind the scenes

Kirk Douglas appeared without a salary in exchange for release from his Warner Bros. contract. The production also reused footage from Valley of the Giants, connecting its lumber-country spectacle to an earlier studio film about a similar environment.
