Synopsis

After pirates destroy his ship and his father dies, a young survivor joins their company to seek revenge. Exceptional swordsmanship and daring win him a place among the crew, but rescuing a captive woman puts his disguise at risk. He must turn the pirates' own expectations against them without abandoning the people in their power.

Douglas Fairbanks developed the adventure for the demanding two-colour Technicolor process. Carefully controlled design and lighting addressed the process's limited palette, making colour part of the film's visual conception rather than a later addition.
