Synopsis
A wealthy man's murder brings a young detective and a retired investigator into the same troubled household. The victim's niece, who is engaged to the younger detective, becomes a suspect when evidence appears in her room. Their search must disentangle family interests, suspicious servants and clues that seem designed to point toward a convenient culprit.

The mystery adapts Sinclair Gluck's 1928 novel The Last Trap. Its partnership between an established investigator and a younger detective gives the case two competing perspectives, with professional suspicion complicated by the younger man's personal attachment to a suspect.
